WOZO’s History of American Music

Thursdays 6pm – 8pm
Recorded and archived editions of History of American Music can be found on Sound Cloud
Expect a chronological presentation of American music; primarily jazz and other related musics. However, I am particularly also fond of white popular music before 1939, early blues, gospel (music and preachers), whistlers, saw players, mallet instrument players, scatters, crooners and yodelers, avant garde and free jazz (at the end of the program) among other arcane musical forms.
History of American Music primarily features original source recordings; 78rpm shellac discs. Expect a small amount of surface noise and glorious monophonic sound!
Thanks to a selection of custom ground British stylii, the Rek-o-cut re-equalizer (which removes the RIAA curve from newer amplifiers) and 31 band EQ, these recordings sound pretty great!
The later part of the show focuses on vinyl 33rpm discs. Expect some crackle and occasional stereophonic sound!
Warning! Listening to History of American Music can change your life!
